WordPress is the primary content management solution chosen by the Office of Communications and Marketing for UT departments and units.
WordPress began as blogging software, but has evolved into a full-fledged content management system. Hundreds of high-profile companies' websites run WordPress, including many higher education websites.
Units and departments within Vanderbilt, Boston University, the University of Virginia, Duke University, Harvard University, UC Berkeley, University of Wisconsin, and more are using WordPress and developing custom themes that are in line with each university's visual identity.
Please feel free to learn more about WordPress to use your new website to its full capabilities.
Fundamentally, the WordPress Theme system is a way to "skin" your weblog. Yet, it is more than just a "skin."...A WordPress Theme is a collection of files that work together to produce a graphical interface with an underlying unifying design for a weblog. These files are called template files. A Theme modifies the way the site is displayed, without modifying the underlying software. —WordPress.org Codex
Our WordPress theme is based upon the UT web templates for university websites. The web templates and this WordPress theme share a strong and easily identifiable visual consistency. While individual units and departments should—and will—have their own identities and content, we are all a part of something much larger.
Note: These web templates and WordPress Theme draw upon the general look and feel of the primary university website, with a few key differences that distinguish them in subtle but deliberate ways. We encourage your freedom and creativity in developing the layout of your main content area; however, for the purposes of branding and clarity, we ask that you please not mimic too closely the design of the UT Knoxville website (www.utk.edu).
All academic and administrative units whose reporting structure culminates with the chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Knoxviille.
There are two ways to use this theme.
One, if you manage your own website and WordPress installation, just download the UT theme then install and activate it on your site.
Two, if you do not manage your own website and/or a WordPress installation, you can contact us. We will schedule a meeting with you to discuss your unit's needs as well as options for hosting your WordPress site.
There are two themes available for download. One theme uses horizontal navigation, and the other theme uses vertical navigation.
